Wayfarer Day

3rd June 2022

Wayfarers at Banbury Sailing Club

A pre-Wayfarer Open get-together for both cruisers and racers with Wayfarer Race Training to ease Wayfarer owners into the Summer Season that will soon be upon us.

A fabulous opportunity to learn from Wayfarer International, European and National Champion Michael McNamara (McNarmara Sails) and Matt Sharman (AeroLuff Spars) who cruises Wayfarers far and wide with a wealth of knowledge and many years experience.

Boats that are being used in the sailing should be launched prior to the programme start.  (There will be some people on the training who will not be sailing.)

The programme and predicted timings are as follows:

11.00                     Introduction. Aims for the day

11.30                     Series of short races using exercise 3

12.30-1.00           Lunch

1.00  -1.45           Sail setting demo

1.45  -2.15           Introduction to afternoon exercises to include 2, 5, 6, 10 etc

2.15  -4.00           On the water

4.00 onwards     Debrief including video

For those on the training, course notes will be sent prior to the day.

Matt Sharman will be available all day on Friday and some of Saturday to carry out boat clinics (a formal assessment of maintenance and improvement issues with your boats). He has access to a reasonable stock of chandlery and will bring enough tools to carry out any small jobs required.  He also has sail alteration facilities eg adding reefs/sail-head buoyancy available back at base in Norfolk. He can also coach sailing techniques and particularly advise on Wayfarer cruising places to go, equipment needed, navigation, clothing, etc.

Banbury Sailing Club is on the bank of the 72 acre Boddington Reservoir. Access to the water is by two slipways with a winch available on one.
